The official records of the Wharton’s has so far revealed that William Bernard and Sophia Charlotte Wharton had three children born between May 1902 and November 1905 – one boy, two girls. The couple’s first two children, Lilian Gertrude Anne Wharton and Edith Aileen Wharton, have been covered elsewhere in this blog. As previously mentioned, there is a (family-based) suggestion that William and Sophia had nine children – so far, there is no evidence in the official records that this was true. The search continues.

William and Sophia’s third child (and first son) was Roland Hamilton Wharton, born on 7th November 1905:

Confirming Roland’s birth and baptism dates in 1902. The baptism took place at Christ Church in Byculla, the residence of Rolamd’s parents, William Bernard and Sophia Charlotte Wharton. William’s occupation confirmed here as a mechanic – which appears in the record of his sibling, Lilian.
